As our sun’s activity is peaking, we have some fun sun activities for your kids. Get them outside and keep them learning, exploring, and having fun during summer break!

1 Sun-brewed tea

What you need:

  • 4 cold-brew tea bags
  • 1 quart cold filtered water
  • Liquid sweetener of your choice (syrup, honey, agave)
  • Steep in the sun for 3-4 hrs

2 Make a sun dial

Instruction:

  • Attach a pencil in the middle of a paper plate.
  • At noon mark ‘12‘.
  • Every hour mark the following hours.
  • Make sure your plate stays in the same place.
  • Watch the sun‘s hand move around the clock.

3 Explore solar power

What you need:

  • Solar panel fountain
  • Shallow box/container
  • Water
  • Full sun

Experiment with different nozzles for extra fun and discover what role the sun‘s angle plays.

4 Make sun print paper art

Instruction:

  • Arrange any object on heat sensitive sun print paper.
  • For better results press objects down with glass or acrylic plate.
  • Let the sun do its work.
  • Rinse off!

5 Create a sun catcher

As the suns rays hit, sun catchers will not just reflect, but ‘catch’ the light, fragment it and scatter it all around.

What you need:

  • Transparent paper
  • Black cardboard
  • Decorative crystals

6 Black White heat experiment

The black can‘s water will be hotter, because the black color converts sunlight energy into heat. Read more about it in our calendar book Nature‘s Dark Treasures!

What you need:

  • Black and white painted cans
  • Water
  • 2 thermometers
  • Timer
